Rashmi Drolia, a Journalist with The Times of India has been selected for the International Visitor Leadership Program(IVLP) for the Human Trafficking study. The program is conducted by the US Department of State and is a premier professional exchange program. It encourages foreign leaders from a variety of fields to visit the US and thus have professional appointments with their American counterparts .

There were 25 participants from 25 different countries and she is the only one selected from India. She is also the only journalist amongst activists, lawyers, investigating officers, judicial officers from different countries. All these people belonging to different professions are working on Human Trafficking related issues in their own country.

In the past, important Indians including Indira Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Narendra Modi also have attended the IVLP. This year’s subject involves human trafficking study within a country or across borders, as bonded laborers or sex slaves. India also suffers several aspects of it, and it is also a signatory to various international protocols to deal with the problem.

Rashmi Drolia is currently working with The Times Of India Raipur in Chhattisgarh as Special Correspondent. Her selection is based on her significant journalistic work on Human Trafficking. In her more than a decade long journalism career, she has received many awards, honors, and prizes for her work.
